GB/T 14711-2025 General Safety Requirements for Small and Medium-sized Rotating Electrical Machines is one of the core fundamental standards in the motor manufacturing industry. Its issuance provides guidelines for us to improve motor industry safety performance, optimize the standard system and enhance its practicality.

Historical Development of the Standard

 

In 1993, GB 14711-1993 General Safety Requirements for Small and Medium-sized Rotating Electrical Machines was first issued as a mandatory standard.

In 2006, the first revision was released as GB 14711-2006 Safety Requirements for Small and Medium-sized Rotating Motors.

In 2013, the second revision was published as GB 14711-2013

In 2017, the standard was reclassified from a mandatory standard to a recommended standard according to the national standard announcement.

In 2025, the third revision was launched as GB/T 14711-2025 General Safety Requirements for Small and Medium-sized Rotating Electrical Machines.

 

GB/T 14711-2025 was issued on May 30, 2025, and will come into force on December 1, 2025. It fully supersedes the 2013 version (GB/T 14711-2013). Beyond structural adjustments and editorial revisions, some of the major technical changes are summarized as follows:

 

1. Added marking and specification requirements for motor service factors and variable frequency speed-regulating motors.

2. Added requirements for terminal boxes and wiring devices of AC-DC dual-purpose motors, AC motors with a rated voltage above 750V (AC)  or a frame size of H315 and above, as well as standby generator motors.

3. Added a measurement method for the grounding resistance of small-power motors.

4. Added requirements that integrated motor drive systems with combined drive and control functions shall also comply with the provisions of GB/T 4208.

5. Added the constant damp heat test method, as well as requirements for measuring touch current and conducting relevant safety confirmation assessments after the damp heat test.
